[Basic Walkthrough for Typical Hero’s Story (ver. 1.7.8) 2. Stage 1 (Floating Islands) Walkthrough]

    1. Stage 1 Overview

Starting from Stage 1, the map gets really huge. If the tutorial had 4 zones, Stage 1 has 12 zones, and each and every zone is incredibly vast, so its size is incomparable to the tutorial. And a lot of kids got burned by the Queen Bee and Queen Ant in the tutorial and think they shouldn’t just enter any old place in this stage, but here, you just have to go into all the islands. Because if you skip a few islands and do the boss fight, you’ll get hit with a mysterious instant-death skill from the boss and die.

What’s really unique about this stage’s boss fight is that if you put your mind to it, you can enter the boss fight as soon as you arrive in Stage 1.

If you go a little further from the fields at the beginning of Stage 1, there is a large bird that moves us to each island. If you get on that bird’s back, catch some fleas, then go to the bird’s head and select ‘Go Up,’ you’ll immediately arrive at a place called ‘Harpyia’s Island,’ and ta-da-da-da-da, dum dum dum, five Harpyias appear and the boss fight begins.

But if you go that way, after about 10 turns, the message ‘Kalon and Iren have started singing an unidentifiable song!’ appears, and the party is immediately annihilated. It’s not like you take any damage or anything, but your allies’ bodies suddenly pop like balloons. No matter how much you struggle, it’s impossible to kill five of them within 10 turns, so to block this instant-death skill, you have to take special measures, and that’s the magic tools on each island.

You need to collect all 2 controllers, 4 amplifiers, and 6 jewels with defense magic on them (12 total). There is one magic tool on each island, and if you collect them all and make the ‘Unidentifiable Staff,’ you can block the bosses’ instant-death attack. Each magic tool has a different number of uses; a controller can be used 6 times each, an amplifier 3 times, and a jewel 2 times. If you add it all up, that’s 12 times, so in the end, you have to take down either Iren or Kalon within 130 turns. Otherwise, you’ll die from the instant-death attack on the next turn.

Truthfully, Stage 1 is easy except for the boss fight, so there isn’t much to explain. The monsters aren’t significantly more difficult compared to the tutorial, and as long as you hide well, you won’t really die, so you just need to be diligent about item farming. Occasionally, if you see a monster that’s alone, catch it and raise your level a bit. The monsters are still strong compared to us, so if you see several of them clustered together, you should obviously run away.

You can check it here. I’d like to explain it all myself if I could, but there are too many types of monsters, so it’s difficult to do so. The types of monsters on each island are all different, and the strategies are different too, so if I were to explain all of that here, it wouldn’t be enough even if I wrote for ten days and nights, so let’s just use the wiki.

Anyway, once you find all the magic tools, raise your level to 30 (actually, the level isn’t that important, but you need to be around that level for your health and magic power to be supportive enough to catch them stably), and feel like you’ve found a decent amount of items, you can go to the boss fight.

For reference, a lot of people ask if the ‘Flight’ parasite is necessary for Stage 1, but you don’t need it. Of course, if you have it, it’s good because you can mob-hunt on the ‘Bird’s Island,’ and your range of movement in the boss fight becomes wider, but you can fight well even without it.

And crucially, even if you put in the Flight parasite, it’s useless when you go to Stage 2. The next stage is the sea, and there’s no way to make use of the wings there, and in Stage 3 or the Demon King’s castle, there aren’t many opportunities to use ‘Flight,’ so it’s a parasite you can pretty much only get a sweet deal from in Stage 1. So don’t bother risking your life for it; if you have it, put it in, and if you don’t, it’s fine not to.

If you have a parasite that you can consistently use even after Stage 1, it’s better to put that in instead.

    1. Stage 1 Boss Fight

Here, it’s safer to stick together with your allies instead of trying to be strategic and scattering. Otherwise, you might not be able to get inside the range of the defense magic during the instant-death skill that comes every 10 turns. If you are more than 5 tiles away from the magician, you’ll be exposed to the instant-death skill, so you need to control your distance well.

I said above that you have to take down either Kalon or Iren within 130 turns, but that doesn’t mean you have to take down Kalon and Iren first. That’s because they are dedicated to long-range attacks, so they always maintain a distance of 15 tiles or more from us, and the ones that do close-range attacks are Lethe and Hezel. These two are quite annoying, so you have to dispose of them first. Whether you can or cannot dispose of one of the two within 60 turns is practically the standard for clearing.

However, trying to face them head-on is extremely tough. It’s because of Skaha, who casts buffs with her song from about 20 tiles away. If you don’t interrupt her so she can’t sing, Lethe and Hezel get double attack power and double defense power, making it incredibly difficult.

However, if Skaha gets hit once, a message pops up saying her concentration has been broken and she temporarily stops singing, so let’s hit her with long-range attacks whenever there’s a spare moment. Her evasion rate is high, so she dodges about half of them, but as long as you hit her, close-range attacks feel less painful for a few turns, so it’s a gain.

And from this boss fight on, the magician has a ton of things to do. First, once the instant-death skill is activated, they have to use defense magic for 3 turns, so they’re effectively tied down, and for the remaining 7 turns, they’re busy using long-range attacks on Skaha and casting buffs on other allies.

For now, that’s about it for the boss explanation. Now, we’ll get into the actual walkthrough, and from here, it splits depending on which ally you chose. Usually, the magician and the knight are included as common members, so the walkthrough is divided depending on whether you brought a thief or a hunter, but neither is particularly difficult.

    1. If you brought a thief

First, the knight draws aggro and runs around in circles. Keep in mind that you’ll die if you run too far away. And in the case of the magician, it’s generally good to bring Damian, because if you bring a mental-type magician, there’s no way to interrupt Skaha. The buff cancellation is triggered only when an attack lands, not interruption magic, so you have to use flame at the right time.

Anyway, Damian’s role is finished if he casts defense magic every 10 turns and fires off long-range attacks, and the really important one is the thief.

In the boss fight, the thief can just serve as a stealth shuttle without doing anything. In this game, the moment the player’s effective hit lands, the aggro spikes, and at that point, if things go wrong, the player could die from a joint attack. At that time, the thief has to lower the aggro with their stealth skill so the player doesn’t die. The thief should stick by the player and consistently use the stealth skill (it’s okay to set the AI to only use stealth), and the player should circle around with the knight and attack whenever there’s a chance.

If you keep doing that, one of the two will die, and after that, you can take down the remaining four in order. It doesn’t take as much time as you might think.

The advantage of this method is that the player doesn’t die easily, and the disadvantage is that the lives of all allies except the player and the thief are hanging by a thread. The only character who can perform long-range attacks is Damian, and he has a ton of other things to do besides long-range attacks. So sometimes a situation arises where he can’t cancel Skaha’s buff, and this is a surprisingly big problem. If the buffs keep stacking, the knight who was drawing aggro might suddenly die screaming, and if that happens, you just have to restart the whole thing. If you plan to go with this strategy, you have to gear up the knight really well.

    1. If you brought a hunter

When you bring a hunter, the pros and cons are the opposite of the thief. The advantage is that the aggro is evenly distributed among all characters, and the disadvantage is that the possibility of the player dying is higher. Either way, you can choose whichever suits you + gets lucky.

Anyway, in this case, the hunter can handle long-range combat all by themself. No matter how high Skaha’s evasion rate is, if the hunter feeds her an arrow every turn, she generally won’t be able to cast buffs. If this happens, the burden the knight has to carry is greatly reduced, and even if the player is hit by a joint attack, they generally won’t die in one hit. Of course, if their health is low, they might die, so you have to dodge well.

Since there is no thief, the aggro spikes every time you land a hit, so let’s repeat hitting and running, hitting and running. The opportunities to hit decrease, but the boss’s defense power is also low in that state, so the clear time doesn’t differ that much compared to the thief strategy.

Since the hunter is in charge of long-range, you have to work the magician a bit harder. First, you have to use flame magic every time the cooldown is up to draw Lethe and Hezel’s aggro, and if you have any other magic you’ve obtained, you have to use that as often as possible, too. The reason for using magic this frequently is because they have to steal as much of the aggro that would come to the player as possible. The magician and the knight have to desperately draw aggro to reduce the attacks coming to the player even a little bit.

Due to the nature of hitting and running frequently, the clear time is a bit long, but still, if you do it well, you can move on to the next stage with this method.

Anyway, I’ll end the boss walkthrough here and bring the Stage 2 walkthrough next time.

└ㅇㅇ: Ta-da-da-da-da dum dum dum hahahahahahahahahaha it’s playing automatically in my head hahahahahahahahahaha

└But: You forgot the most important thing in the hunter walkthrough? Where’s the C-shaped space? If you hide in the C-shaped space and hit the boss when it passes by, it counts as a surprise attack and is always a critical hit.

└└Ginger Man: But/I know about that too, but if you do it wrong, the player dies without even being able to escape;; It’s fine if the knight uses dash to push them out or the magician uses blink to move them, but there’s no guarantee that skill will always be available.

└RockPaperScissors: Come to think of it, if the hero has the play dead skill, you don’t really need to use the thief, do you? If you run away for about 2 turns and then use play dead, they stop chasing you.

└ThxThx: Play dead is good. If you attack while it’s active, it always counts as a surprise attack.

└ㅁㄴㅇㄹ: What do I do about the island collapsing? I die before I can even do anything.

    └└ㅇㅇ: ? What’s collapsing?

└└└ㅁㄴㅇㄹ: After you enter an island and about a day passes, a countdown or something appears on the map and it collapses. What do you do about that?

└└Ginger Man: Where is there something like that? I’ve never once heard of an island collapsing while playing this game.

└└└ㅁㄴㅇㄹ: All the monsters on the island were chasing me and it was chaos, you know? In the end, I died because the island collapsed……. Maybe it’s because I was on my second playthrough?

└└└└Ginger Man: Do you happen to have a video of it?

└└└└└ㅁㄴㅇㄹ: Yeah, I do. I’ll upload it soon.

└ㅇㅇ: A post like this came up on the official site.

“Officially, a ‘second playthrough’ does not exist. Most phenomena currently being reported as a second playthrough are presumed to be a type of bug. If you report it to the game developer, we will send you a patch file! To those who have discovered a second playthrough, please absolutely do not play any further, as your game file may become corrupted! We would also appreciate it if you would refrain from uploading videos!”

    What is this?

└SeeZer: When the island collapses, if you look closely at the map after a certain turn, coordinates will appear! If you go to those coordinates and search, something might come out :3

In the Demonic Capital, a trial presided over directly by the Demon King was a rather rare event.

Most trials were presided over by the Beast King, Crocell, who governed law and rules, and the instances of the Demon King holding a trial himself were strictly limited. The principle was that the Demon King would only step in personally when those who had no obligation to be subordinate to any existence other than the Demon King—in other words, the guardians of each zone and the Demon King’s closest aides—needed to be tried.

Moreover, this trial was quite unique in nature compared to previous ones. Originally, trials of this kind were often held to mete out punishment to those whom no one but the Demon King could control. Conflicts that arose between the guardians or the Demon King’s closest aides were usually resolved among themselves. This was because the Demon King had to be fair and impartial and was not an entity that existed to handle individuals’ personal gains.

However, the trial held this time was a lawsuit for damages requested directly by the Harpyias of the ‘Sky Island’ zone. The party they demanded compensation from was the King of Insects, Herus. It was on the grounds that Herus’s child had attempted to destroy their island and had killed many of the island’s demonic beasts.

Normally, it was a matter that should have been dismissed under the consensus that ‘such problems can be resolved by yourselves,’ but the Demon King exceptionally accepted their request for a trial. The reason was that considering the power difference between Herus and the Harpyias, a normal settlement would be impossible without the Demon King’s mediation.

High-ranking demonic beasts, curious as to what on earth was going on, why Herus’s child had wrecked the Harpyias’ island, and why the Harpyias had gone so far as to request a trial, gathered one and all to watch the proceedings. Of course, Crocell, who usually presided over most trials, was the same. And, the result of the trial was…….

—The Harpyias won, though, Mister Crocell. I was sure they would lose.

—This incident was clearly Mister Herus’s fault. No matter how much the Harpyias consented to letting Mister Herus’s child in, blowing up the island and inflicting serious injuries on the Harpyias was too much.

—But wasn’t it damage that unavoidably occurred in the process of trying to kill the humans? It’s true that Mister Herus’s child acted a bit rashly, but since it’s a child who was born only a month ago, it’s possible to make a small mistake…….

—Mister Herus is also clearly at fault for dispatching a child who hasn’t even been born a month. He has many children, so it would have been fine to send another child.

—That is true. If he had dispatched an older child, a problem like this might not have happened.

—Right. No matter how much he is favored by His Majesty the Demon King, Mister Herus has a somewhat rash side to him.

Crocell was walking down the corridor of the Demon King’s castle while talking with his adjutant. Even though it was the Demon King who held this trial, it was Crocell’s role to execute its results, so now that the trial was over, he was on his way to the Demon King’s office to be ordered exactly what he had to do.

—But the Harpyias aren’t completely innocent either, are they? They also sent the humans to another zone without permission. Why is it that regarding that point……?

—Strictly speaking, the one who moved the humans to the next zone was not the Harpyias but ‘Gon.’ If they had opened the entrance themselves, they could have been charged with treason, but throughout the trial, the Harpyias claimed that the humans used that demonic beast to move to the next zone on their own. Since Mister Herus’s side couldn’t prove the Harpyias’ intent, it couldn’t be helped.

In that respect, they used their heads quite a bit. Crocell muttered so and scratched his fluffy cheek a few times with his claw. In reality, it would be difficult for the Harpyias to be charged with treason in this incident. ‘Gon,’ which possessed the attributes of both a fish and a bird, was an existence not under the protection of any guardian, and for that reason, no guardian needed to take responsibility for that demonic beast’s actions.

Herus was probably boiling with rage right about now. Restoring the Harpyias’ island and compensating for their psychological damage would not be a big problem in itself, but the child he had bothered to send had returned in a complete mess.

His child had fortunately avoided death, but the injuries were serious enough that he wouldn’t be able to get out of his sickbed for several weeks. Furthermore, there was talk that his right eye, which was attacked by a human’s sword, would be crippled for life. Wouldn’t he be boiling with uncontrollable anger, having let go of the very humans who put his child in this state?

—By the way, what will happen to those humans now? Wouldn’t it be dangerous to just leave them be?

—I am a little worried about that as well. For humans who have received God’s protection to kill the Queen Spider and cause all that trouble on the sky island. But…, there are only five of them, are there not?

    —That is true.

—Mister Herus is making all that fuss because his child died, but frankly, I’m not that worried. Could it be that he believes it’s the humans’ fault that the Queen Spider lost her life during childbirth? There are those who make a fuss saying a sudden genetic disease spread through the Queen Spider colony, but frankly, it hasn’t been verified whether that was a real genetic disease or not.

Crocell and his adjutant looked at each other and gave a bitter smile. They, who had invaded the human world as members of the demonic army last year, knew better than anyone how weak and insignificant the species called human was.

Even the weakest demonic beast of the Demon Realm had the ability to handle two or three humans without any problem, so they were confident that even if humans attacked in troops, most of them would be annihilated before they could even reach the Demon King’s castle. But just five of them? At this point, it was beyond ridiculous.

‘Besides, if those humans truly had power so great as to shake the Demon Realm, there’s no way His Majesty the Demon King would have made a ruling like that.’

Crocell was certain of it. The Demon King knew everything that happened in the Demon Realm and was an existence who could make wiser judgments than anyone else in the Demon Realm. There must have been a reason why a Demon King like that did not press charges of treason against the Harpyias. Surely those humans were beings too insignificant to bother dealing with.

—Then, you wait here. I will go see His Majesty the Demon King.

    —Yes, Mister Crocell.

The adjutant waited with his hands politely clasped on the first-floor landing, and Crocell leisurely made his way towards the office on the second floor. However, having come up to the second floor, he paused for a moment. It was because he had easily realized that there was a visitor in the office. Thanks to his animal-form-specific sensitive hearing, he could even hear the conversation coming from the office without difficulty.

—So, you came all this way to ask that?

—That is correct, Your Majesty the Demon King.

It was a Harpyia’s voice. Her name was……. Kalon? Crocell was able to recall her name quickly, and along with it, he recalled her left face, raw from burns, and her untrimmed black wings. Of course, it was highly likely that such an appearance of hers was intentional to gain an advantage in the trial. To highlight her own damage as much as possible and elicit sympathy, she would have had no need to fully regenerate her wounds.

Well, anyway, it seemed that she had been severely injured. From what he heard, the only one who was relatively fine was that Harpyia named Kalon, and her other sisters were still on the island, unconscious and in agony. It would take at least several months for them to fully restore their injured bodies.

—But this is unexpected. I didn’t anticipate hearing this question from you.

—I am aware that it may be a rude question. However, I believed that no one other than Your Majesty the Demon King could answer this question.

—Yes, there’s no way they could answer. Most would not even know what your question means…….

The Demon King’s slow sigh could be heard. While thinking that listening to this conversation might be an overly rude act, Crocell waited right there for the conversation to end instead of going downstairs. The Demon King would know he was in front of the office anyway, and if it had been a truly uncomfortable conversation, he would have stopped Crocell the moment he set foot on the stairs leading to the second floor.

The fact that he did not meant it was a story that was fine for someone else to overhear……. Or that it was difficult to understand even if heard.

    —Once.

    —……!

—It was deep in the left side of the neck. I was stabbed in a single breath. It was so exceedingly clear and precise that I couldn’t even properly perceive that moment. For me, I quite liked it.

It seemed to be the latter. It was because, even though it was in the middle of a conversation, he couldn’t understand the context at all. It seemed to be describing someone’s death, but he couldn’t tell whose death it was.

—Do not make that face, Harpyia. Did you have regrets about your past?

—There were times I did, and times I did not.

—I see. But I did not. Because it was the best fight I could have ever wished for.

    —But I do not understand.

    —What is it?

—If what you say is truly the truth……. Then, for what purpose does that hero continue this act? According to Your Majesty’s words, hasn’t that hero already achieved his goal?

Hero? Crocell, who was tilting his head for a moment, barely managed to recall the rumor that humans called the one who received God’s protection a hero. In that case, were His Majesty the Demon King and Kalon talking about those humans? But even assuming that, the conversation between the two demonic beasts was very difficult to understand.

—I cannot tell you. That hero must have things he wants to hide as well.

    —……?

—However, it is true that his existence was helpful to my plan. Because he is the first hero to break the rules.

    —The rules, you say?

—I don’t know if it’s thanks to that hero, but you also broke the rules just the same. The rule that says, ‘A guardian can never send a hero to another region of their own will,’ that is.

    —I apologize. But I just couldn’t leave him be…….

—I am not trying to reprimand you. I am grateful to you. Thanks to you breaking the rule, things have become easier.

    —Pardon?

—Already, several other rules have been broken besides that. More than three humans becoming the hero’s companions, humans and demonic beasts who remember the past, even if only in the form of dreams, appearing, demonic beasts from other zones fighting with the humans, the human king who should have remained in the royal castle entering this world with the hero……. Ah, come to think of it, God must have quite a headache because of the human king. Granting God’s grace to him in the first place is also a violation of the rules. It seems he is deceiving the hero for now under the pretext of a second playthrough or what have you…….

What on earth were the rules the Demon King was talking about? Crocell was most curious about that point, but the Demon King did not seem to intend to explain further about the rules. Even though matters concerning the laws or rules of the Demon Realm were entirely under Crocell’s jurisdiction, Crocell had never heard of the ‘rules’ the Demon King was talking about now. It was a concerning matter.

—Is breaking the rules a good thing?

—Of course, it is not normally a good thing. Rules exist to be followed, not to be broken. But…….

    —……But?

—If the very existence of the rules is eating away at our world, shouldn’t we obviously break those rules?

Crocell flinched for a moment. From the Demon King’s voice, which was usually calm with no ups and downs no matter what happened, an astonishingly clear emotion of anger and disgust was seeping out.

What kind of conversation were those two demonic beasts having? What on earth did that Harpyia know? Was it okay for him to keep listening to this conversation? Gripped by such questions, Crocell hesitantly stepped back.

—Many have experienced death. In this world, and in the last world.

    —…….

—To stop this repeating time, we must somehow tear down the rules of the world itself completely. Only then can we prevent further sacrifices.

    —…….

—Yes, I hope this has been a sufficient answer for you. You have done a very meaningful thing for me, so you deserve to hear this much. If there is more to discuss, how about we postpone it until tomorrow? The Beast King is currently outside waiting for our talk to end.

While Crocell was letting out an awkward dry cough, the office door opened and a Harpyia with a bitter expression walked out. On her face, which was severely scarred by burns, deep sorrow was also stained. She lowered her gaze politely and greeted Crocell, and Crocell, holding back the urge to ask her about the conversation just now, headed into the office.

—You have come, Crocell. Here is the disposition you must deliver to Herus.

Though his voice had been quite angry just a moment ago, the Demon King who faced him in the office handed Crocell the documents with the same indifferent expression as usual. It seemed he had no intention of explaining the previous conversation to Crocell right now. Frankly, even if he heard an explanation, he wasn’t confident he would understand it, so Crocell accepted the documents with a nonchalant expression, pretending he hadn’t heard the conversation.

But as he quickly scanned the documents while holding back his frustration, he realized something strange. To be sure, most of the dispositions he had to carry out were written in the documents. Monitoring whether Herus paid compensation as determined by the verdict, and closely watching to see if he did anything like retaliation, everything from important to minor things was written down. But.

—My apologies, Your Majesty. Isn’t there a part that has been omitted?

    —What do you mean?

—I mean what is written in these documents. I feel like one important thing is missing……. According to these documents, there is no way to stop Mister Herus even if he sends a child to the ‘Deep Sea Labyrinth’ again. The same thing as this time could happen again.

Crocell, who had been meticulously inspecting the documents once more, suddenly raised his head and had to feel a shiver run down his spine. It was because the Demon King was staring straight at him with a slight smile. The Demon King opened his mouth as if it were nothing.

—Herus must have learned something from this incident. That he should at least send a child who can tell right from wrong, rather than a newborn one.

    —……Pardon?

—This time, will you not relay to him that he should send a more proper child, not one who self-destructs, unable to overcome his own anger? That way, he can show the humans the threat of death without causing harm to other demonic beasts.

    —……!

The Demon King gave Crocell a light wink, and Crocell, realizing the meaning of that wink, immediately paid his respects to the Demon King and left the office. Even though it had been less than ten minutes, he felt completely drained.
