AGENT 60
by twentyAs I shared the awkward air with Lee Suji on the way back home, two people were waiting out in front of the main gate of the mansion. Weizhen wore a quite serious expression, while Danny had a smile on his face as if something were amusing.
Once Suji and I finished parking and got out of the car together, Weizhen approached us immediately and asked.
“What about the guys who were following you?”
“I shook them off in Red Hill.”
“Any idea who they were?”
“…”
Lee Suji’s gaze lingered on me for a moment. Weizhen was already looking at me with hawk-like eyes, and that kind of look from Suji only served to plant more seeds of suspicion. Even though Suji was staring at me, I turned my head away, pretending not to notice.
“…No. But I think they might be Interpol or the police.”
Seeing that, Suji didn’t give an answer that would give Weizhen a reason to suspect me. This was because,
— Suji.
‘……Yes?’
— Bring him in safely.
In the call from a little while ago, Seo Soo had told him to bring me in safely. If Seo Soo had said something like “Get inside carefully” or “See you later,” I would have been killed on the spot. That was their unspoken rule.
However, because a playful Seo Soo had told him to bring me in safely, Suji didn’t touch a single hair on my head; he simply holstered his gun and returned to the mansion. I wondered what Seo Soo believed after hearing everything, and what he found so funny.
“Let’s go in and rest…”
Suji walked toward the mansion with exhausted, trundling steps. At that, Weizhen’s expression crumpled instantly. Usually, if Suji had shaken off someone tailing him, he would have been excitedly bragging about his heroic exploits. Seeing him like this made it clear that something had happened between the two of us.
“Researcher.”
“Yes?”
Weizhen quickly snatched me as I tried to follow right behind Suji. My expression froze awkwardly before smoothing out. Catching that, Weizhen waited until he confirmed Suji had entered the mansion before pouring questions onto me.
“Did something happen with Suji?”
“Pardon?”
“Were the people following you really Interpol or the police?”
“Pardon?”
“Why did you buy a pocket tool at the mall?”
“What? How did you know about that?”
“What are you up to?”
I intended to keep playing dumb by repeating “Pardon?”, but when I protested out of sheer absurdity that Weizhen even knew my shopping history, he seemed to think he had caught me in a slip and immediately began cornering me.
“Alright, that’s enough. Let’s head inside too.”
Danny, who was standing beside him, pushed Weizhen’s back as if telling him to stop. But Weizhen did not yield to Danny’s restraint and began to interrogate me as if he were going to devour me.
“No. I need to get a proper answer. How on earth could someone who was supposedly kidnapped roam around so freely? And if you escaped alone, you should have gone straight back to your home country; why did you come looking for Susu? And, most suspicious of all. What is up with those search terms of yours?”
As Weizhen barked at me, Danny looked flustered and tried to hold him back, but upon hearing “search terms,” he showed a flash of curiosity.
“That… is an unrelated matter.”
I hurried to shut Weizhen up. No matter how much I had to explain and persuade them, I still had my human rights. I did not want my shameful search history exposed in front of a Mister who was old enough to be my father.
“How is it unrelated? Weren’t you planning to do that to Susu?”
No. It was what I wanted Seo Soo to do to me—wait. Or could I do it to him? I briefly agonized over who would be the giver and who would be the receiver, but since I had already experienced it once, I figured I should probably be the receiver.
“What were you going to do to Su?”
“…Father, you don’t need to know that much.”
Fortunately, it seemed Weizhen wasn’t trying to completely destroy my social standing. But wait…
“Father?”
I looked back and forth between Weizhen and Danny. Father? You mean the two of them are father and son? Not Lee Suji and Danny, but Weizhen and Danny?
“Ah, you didn’t know. Weizhen is my son. His original name is Zhen Wei. I am Danny Wei.”
Danny answered with a laugh. At that, Weizhen put on a somewhat blunt face, which felt very much like a son in front of his father. Wait, then does that mean Weizhen has also known Seo Soo since they were kids?
No, no. More importantly, does that mean Lee Suji told me about Seo Soo in front of Weizhen’s father, saying it was a secret from Weizhen? And Danny, too—didn’t he freely tell me very private details about Seo Soo? Even if half of it was a lie and half was the truth.
I looked at Danny with a bewildered face. But Danny, seemingly just finding the situation funny, stood next to Weizhen with a mischievous face and secretly made a “shhh” gesture, telling me to keep it a secret.
In a situation that was glossed over by the new revelation of their father-son relationship, I was able to go up to my room after enduring a light… well, not exactly light, glare.
After unpacking the things I bought at the mall and taking a shower, I sat on the bed drying my hair with a towel. “Heh…” Thinking back on it, I let out a hollow laugh at Danny’s playfulness.
How could a father and son have such different personalities? Weizhen had a very “by the book” personality similar to mine, while Danny had a sly personality like Lee Suji. If they had said the two bald men were father and son, I would have accepted it easily, but knowing the other one was the son made me laugh in disbelief the more I thought about it.
Father…
Seo Soo’s father. That was what I was most curious about right now. Just what kind of person was Seo Soo’s father that Seo Soo hated having his name called so much? Ah…
“Could it be… the boss…?”
Why hadn’t I thought of this? Thinking about it, Seo Soo’s father could be the boss of Yiwon. Perhaps the father and son created the drug organization together to get revenge on Brian. But since the boss of Yiwon was a cold-blooded, heartless human, he kept a tight grip on Seo Soo, which might be why Seo Soo grew to hate his father and wouldn’t let anyone call him by that name…!
“Something feels off, though.”
Even as I made this deduction, the thought that it wasn’t quite right kept surfacing.
“My head hurts.”
Ah, I’ve been using my brain too much lately. For 27 years, the only time I used my brain was for taking exams, but in the past few months, it felt like I’d done nothing but deduction after deduction.
Flop.
Lying back like that, I stared at the ceiling. It was geometric but carried an air of luxury, with the entire pattern made of individual wood carvings.
— The agent says he likes me.
Ah… damn it, seriously.
If you don’t select cancel after ending the call, a location message is sent, but I thought the message would just fly out immediately without the call ever connecting. This was all a stupid mistake that happened because I didn’t read the instructions properly. I felt like I could die of embarrassment.
— Ha ha—.
And yet, I felt like I could die of happiness.
“I want to see him… soon.”
I hoped tomorrow would come quickly. I wanted to see that face and hear that voice as soon as possible.
Blink— Blink—
My eyes, full of anticipation for the next day, slowly drifted shut.
And a few hours later, before the dawn broke—
A sleek white sports car let out a loud exhaust note as it slid into the brightly lit mansion grounds. Danny forbade everyone in the organization, including his own son Weizhen and Suji, from bringing cars inside because he said it would ruin the garden, but only one person was allowed. The owner of this mansion.
“Welcome back!”
“You’re back early—.”
Everyone in the mansion, upon hearing the exhaust note, rushed down to the first floor with half-asleep faces to greet him, but only one person remained soundly asleep, unaware of anything.
“Mmm—.”
The owner of the sports car and the master of this mansion, noticing that fact immediately, took off the coat he was wearing and naturally handed it to Danny standing beside him. Then, as if he had a destination in mind, he crossed the first floor and headed for the stairs.
Suddenly, the first floor became silent. Since he had never shown himself going up to the second floor of the main building, Weizhen’s brow furrowed instantly, while Suji, who wasn’t fully awake yet, didn’t realize that fact and followed behind him, pelting him with questions.
“The attack on the Macau hotel, it was the triads after all, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, looks like you settled it well. Good job.”
“Yeah.”
“Oh, and an Interpol agent arrived yesterday…”
“Suji.”
“Yeah?”
The two had already reached the middle of the stairs. Noticing this, Suji, who had been squinting in his half-asleep state, snapped his eyes wide like a rabbit.
“Later—.”
With that, Seo Soo climbed the remaining half and disappeared completely onto the second floor, leaving Suji in a state of chaos.
While all the organization members, including Suji, were in a collective state of mental breakdown at seeing a side of him they had never seen before, only Danny, holding the coat, was laughing with his eyes gleaming with interest.
